50′ Novatec- Galley Upgrades

The Yacht- A 50′ Novatec

One of the more difficult interior spaces to renovate in any yacht is the galley. Space for both storage and food preparation is often tight, and it can require a craftsman who is both an artist and an engineer to work within those limitations and yet make the new galley with modern appliances both functional and beautiful.

Such was the case on one of our recent projects as we were asked to renovate the galley in a 50’ Novatec Motor Yacht. The owners asked Big Ocean Marine to modify the cabinetry and countertops, and also add a microwave and access for updated electrical service. This yacht was built in a Taiwanese yard in the late 1990’s, and therefore had a lot of woodwork throughout the interior.

As always, we began the job by carefully preparing our workspace, installing protective plastic and blankets around the project area in addition to any areas we would need to walk through to gain access.

Next came the demo, as the old existing appliances were disassembled into pieces small enough to be removed from the yacht, giving us a blank slate to begin preparing the galley for the upgrades.

The new appliances were of different dimensions than the ones we had pulled out, which necessitated creating patterns of the new appliances so we could determine where to cut the existing cabinetry. With the preparations completed, we then installed the custom mounting brackets and new trim pieces we had fabricated beforehand at our shop.

This was a great renovation project that will allow the owners to get even greater use of their galley. The owners of this beautiful 50’ Novatec were very pleased with the results and have contracted Big Ocean Marine to perform additional improvements.
