45’ Prestige- Complete Cabin Sole Rebuild
This boat is a 45’ Prestige motor yacht. This vessel was factory equipped with a dark laminate cabin sole with snap-in carpet. This flooring was forever a nuisance to the owner. The bare floors were extremely slippery in both wet and dry conditions. The carpeting was frequently getting wet from his dogs and it was not drying quickly enough. It would constantly get unsnapped and turn into a trip hazard. It became clear that the flooring that came with the boat did not work for them and it had to be replaced. The owners needed something more durable for their dogs and extensive cruising plans. Ideally, this flooring enhancement would also be more aesthetically pleasing. After considering different options, the owner made a choice to go with synthetic faux walnut and holly flooring by Plasteak. We began by demoing the existing carpeting. Then it was important to replace the existing trim and stair noses to create a seamless installation of the Plasteak vinyl flooring. We created patterns for the entire boat, cut and custom fit the Plasteak.This was a unique project as it involved a high level of detail in order to fabricate trim pieces with solid walnut that would fit correctly and resemble the original design of the boat. The high end detailed work ensured the boat would maintain a classic look instead of appearing like an aftermarket object.
Similar to many production built boats, carpeting was used heavily throughout the master suite and stairways. To improve the aesthetics and durability of our flooring install, we created new stair risers throughout the vessel. The risers were made of veneered marine plywood to match the existing interior woodwork.
Great care was taken to protect the existing interior of the boat throughout the demo process and installation of the new floor and trim. The repairs and modernization completed on this boat resulted in improved durability, easier to clean non-slip surfaces and a higher end look.
