Marlow 70’
One of the perks of this job is being able to experience the inside and outside of different vessels and learn about what makes each boat unique and perfect for the needs of each owner. Whether your priority is comfort, elegance or speed, each boat that we work on has a history of exciting adventures or plans in the making.
This Marlow 70 really stood out as one of the boats with the most comfortable living quarters including spacious cabins and a lot of storage cabinets. It has very roomy living areas and plenty of open space to relax and entertain. The command bridge on this Marlow offers an expansive view through the windows and the helm is fully customized to the needs of the owner.
This yacht also has a beautiful teak interior with a lot of high gloss finish which gives it a classy and elegant flair. The owner of this boat reached out to us to address several repairs needed due to wear and tear as well as some water damage.
Big Ocean’s TO DO list:
✔Flooring repair
Previous floor repairs had resulted in a strong matte like finish that did not properly match the rest of the flooring. In order to correct this, we had to sand, recoat and buff these areas to really match the high gloss coating around it.
✔Hand rail repair
The hand rail at the stairs leading up to the command bridge was built from the factory with a glue up lamination. The look was beautiful but unfortunately the glue had started to fail and spaces were showing between the lamination. Using a syringe, we injected thickened epoxy to correct the spaces and refinished and buffed to a high gloss. This repair allowed us to restore the strength and the beautiful look of this hand rail.
✔Custom flat screen TV frame
The owners had acquired a flat screen TV for the upper state room and wanted this piece to match the built in frame in their lower state room TV. We fabricated a custom mount out of solid teak that matched their lower stateroom frame and allowed both frame and mount to be removed as needed.
✔Restoration of galley cabinet
The galley spice cabinet has sustained water damage and needed to be stripped down to bare wood for an adequate repair. We then sanded and refinished this piece to restore it to its original look.
✔Resealing of hatches
The hatches above the galley, the fly bridge and forward state rooms had to be removed, rebed and resealed by installing new gaskets to the deck. Big Ocean Marine’s lead carpenter- Ryan Schaap- highlighted the importance of very thorough surface prep to ensure achieving a good bond and preventing future leaks. Our process included the removal of the old caulk, application of solvent wipe and sanding the surfaces where it would bed. In order to achieve an optimal bond, we had to sand both the surface of the boat as well as the metal hatch itself. The goal was to establish a chemical and mechanical bond that would sustain future use and weathering.
