This power boat is a 35’ Mainship trawler that had been well maintained but was in need of some repairs and modifications. The owners of this boat are passionate wood boat lovers and owners of multiple classic powerboats. They have a great appreciation for the beauty of wood. It was very important to them that the beautiful teak interior of their trawler be in pristine condition. Unfortunately, there had been significant water damage caused by a new refrigerator installation without proper drainage. This resulted in a rotted cabin sole under the galley cabinetry. The original cabin sole was a typical ¾” marine plywood under ¼ teak & holly veneer plywood. Due to the design of the boat, access to the damaged area was very limited. Fortunately, we were able to disassemble some of the lower cabinetry and remove appliances to gain access. We then demoed all the rot damage and were able to scarf a new section into the existing floor. A new section of teak and holly floor was installed and stained to match the existing one. The owners also requested a new cabinet door and assorted trim pieces be fabricated to match the existing cabinetry. After completing all structural boat repairs to the floor and cabinetry improvements, we began prepping to refinish all varnish. Through most of the vessel this required two maintenance coats. However, some areas around the forward windows and lower helm had significant sun damage. The UV damaged teak had to be completely stripped down to bare wood. This was later refinished with 12+ coats of varnish to provide a significant level of protection and beautify the interior.
